NEED's SS18 collection, "Global Local," is the label's most colorful yet. It is in many ways a celebration of the silver linings of our hyperconnected world: we can see, taste, touch, smell and enjoy far-flung places more than at any point in history and we're culturally richer for it. When we talk about globalization these days it's almost always gloom and doom, but in spite of the downsides, our increased connectedness should remind us of our shared human nature and all the things that make us the same.
The collection was visually inspired by a mishmash of bold, graphic settings, from a few iconic Hugh Holland photographs of California skater kids to Indian architecture that pops with color, untamed hair and wild flora. There's a visceral, textural feeling to the collection—like a vacation snapshot on Velvia with a rich palette of sage greens, marigold yellows, cream, rust and vermilion.
